EMPESA

EMPESA, or the European Meeting on the Political Economy of South Asia, is a yearly workshop bringing together scholars based in Europe working on empirical projects related to political economy in South Asian countries. EMPESA was founded by Simon Chauchard, Francesca R. Jensenius, Pavithra Suryanarayan, and Milan Vaishnav in 2022, and have so far had three gatherings:

  • Madrid 2023, hosted by Simon Chauchard at the University Carlos III 
  • Oslo, hosted by Francesca R. Jensenius and Ankita Barthwal the University of Oslo
  • Napoli, hosted by Diego Maiorano at the University of Naples L’Orientale

The next meeting will be hosted at the Center for Advanced Studies in Oslo in June 2026, a call for papers will be circulated in fall 2025. Get in touch if you want to receive information about the call.
